While it seems silly and unimportant to be on the search for bedroom curtains while the U.S. is in political and moral chaos, I’m finding that having house projects to focus on for a couple of hours, actually clears my head and helps me to begin to process what’s happening. And currently my project is curtains.
So I’m on a curtain mission. Our bedroom is so lovely and flooded with light during the day and I love waking up with the sun. But, I think the time has come for some curtains to finish the room to make it super-duper cozy. So here’s the thing — we have 3 styles of windows in one room and I keep getting tripped up on how to make them match/go-together/look grown-up. I started the search yet again for curtain options this morning and I fell down a rabbit hole looking at lace curtains - they’re so beautiful! I’m not certain that we are lace curtain people in our bedroom (kitties with claws who love to sit it the windows). At least, we might not be vintage lace curtain people.
But look at this gorgeous pattern:
From Etsy - go ahead and buy them, they won’t work for my space. ;)
And this swoon worthy French piece from the 1900’s.
Go ahead and buy this one as well, just send me photos plz.
And one more for kicks:
This is from the 1980’s - how pretty is that? Might buy these another room, so don’t buy them please. Thx.
Ok, back to window shapes. First window is a basic situation - we hang some rods, find a pretty curtain, hang it up. Easy peasy.
That’s our boy, Rhubarb, mere moments before he lost his mind because a car drove by.
The second window situation is a bay window. LOVE it so much and so do my plants, but how do you curtain-ize this space? Take a look:
Where do curtain rods go? How many panels do I need? Do they need to go to the floor? Is this a place for roman shades? Or a couple of panels for the big window and leave the side windows alone? Do we hang the hardware on the window frame? Or on the ceiling part?
And then window situation number 3. LOVE this little nook, so do the cats.
Again, where do the rods go?! On the walls? On the window frame? Above the frame on the underside of the shelves? Is this a place for cafe curtains? With a tension rod?
See? 3 window style in one room and I just get stuck! Do we go with:
+Long flowing linen drapes for #1, shades for #2 and cafe curtains for #3?
+Or cafe curtain for #1 and #3, and shades for #2?
+Or maybe cafe curtains for all 3?
+Maybe Roman shades for all windows? Something like these:
From Select Blinds - these are quite pretty with that gorgeous William Morris print.
Errrggh. This is why after nearly 4 years of living here, we have no bedroom curtains.
I have no resolution to this yet, so stay tuned.
Now accepting design opinions,
Heidi
