I actually love to paint and find that for me, winter is the perfect time for it. I’m able to take some time off from jam-making work with a plan to hibernate, yet work on house projects. It’s a fine line.
How satisfying to change a room with a little gallon of paint and few hours of time. I’ve been working my way around our house, room by room, and I just finished the living room. If you are reading this before 2/24/25 my favorite paint is on sale at Sherwin Williams for 40% off! WHAT? Such a good value for a really nice paint.
We decided on a dark, rich green, to pull together all the textures and pieces of framed artwork. We wanted cozy and cocoon-ish since it’s the room with all the records and books and the tv - the place where we end our evenings with a movie or YouTube videos about art restoration (which is TOTALLY addicting, by the way. Watch this person and try to tell me otherwise). So it always felt like it should be dark and well, like a library.
So we picked a paint, I finished one wall and we liked it! For about 18 hours. And then, it just felt..so, green. And immature, if a color can feel that way. We spent all that time envisioning this darkish green cozy room, but the walls said NOPE, try again. Damn.
It really is a pretty green. And now I have a whole gallon to use somewhere else.
So back to the pile of paint swatches. After a kind of quick decision, we went with a light green with a bit of brown in it. It’s a Victorian Hertage color called Majolica Green and YAY! What a gorgeous color! It’s warm, it’s neutral, it’s pretty, it’s cozy - WHEW!
Look at this super pretty Majolica Green!
And then for kicks we went with a very dark green for one wall that we wanted to fill with art. Are accent walls going out of fashion? probably. Do I really care? not a bit — it’s GORGEOUS. Look!!
Pre-art hanging. And pre-cord maintenance it looks like. And if you are wondering what’s happening on the bottom left of the wall, it’s little cat door to the basement.
The two colors together - yum.
The dark green was a color match from a discontinued Magnolia brand paint that we liked, called 1905 green.
And now with the room getting put back together, I’m so pleased the first color was wrong and we didn’t continue painting!
If you need me, I’ll be here.
Happy painting - if that’s your sort of thing too!

Did you do the ceiling yourselves? I love it!!! The new color is gorgeous. Can't wait to hear where the dark green went.
